Goal

The goal of redesigning and rebuilding the Torplyktan webshop was to create a modern and flexible platform that would be easy for administrators to manage. This transformation aimed to enhance the user experience, making the site more appealing and intuitive. Additionally, the redesign focused on increasing sales by creating a more engaging and seamless shopping experience for customers.

It's never a straight path

Bumps on the road

Before achieving the final project results, there were several challenges and obstacles that I needed to overcome. Initially, an inexperienced design student was hired to create a draft, which served as the foundation for the project. She developed a color scheme and selected some fonts. However, despite the founder’s initial desire to remain uninvolved in the design process, he could not refrain from stepping in after seeing the preliminary design based on the student’s work.

This intervention was necessary because the founder was not satisfied with the design, despite my efforts to ensure all parties were content before moving into development. Consequently, I had to take a step back to refine and clean up the design, ensuring it met the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

Solution

To address the challenges faced during the redesign project, I took several key actions. First, I remade the color scheme and meticulously built the components in Figma to ensure a cohesive and visually appealing design. Utilizing WordPress and WooCommerce, I developed a flexible and user-friendly platform. The site now boasts a clean and appealing look, enhancing the overall user experience.

We made a scent map for the candles, allowing users to easily understand the scents they are purchasing. Additionally, a dynamic notification system informs users when a product, such as Meadow has been recently bought by others. This adds a sense of community and makes the site feel alive.

To streamline the management process for administrators, I created prebuilt components that they can select from to construct the webshop as they see fit while maintaining a consistent design. This approach not only simplifies the administrative tasks but also ensures that the site’s aesthetic remains uniform and professional.
